Something in the air: three fragrances for spring

There’s something about Spring that makes me want to reach for different things. The light is changing. The garden is waking up. You open the back door in the morning and there’s that particular freshness in the air that only belongs to this time of year. None of my scents are designed to be seasonal, but some just seem to step forward as the perfect fragrances for Spring.

Country | Gwlad Eau de Parfum

Country is the one I reach for when I want to feel like I’ve stepped outside, even when I haven’t. It opens with petitgrain and neroli alongside a bright fig leaf accord, before settling into a heart of narcissus, cut grass, and water notes. The daffodil has always felt deeply Welsh to me, and that narcissus note carries both the flower and the feeling of it: that unmistakable freshness that says spring is properly here. Vetiver and soft woods anchor it all, keeping it grounded and wearable rather than purely abstract.

It’s a clean, vibrant scent that just makes sense right now.

If you’d like to understand more about how the materials in Country work together, my Perfumer’s Notebook posts on Cut Grass (Cis-3-Hexenol) and Neroli go into the worlds of these citrus and green notes in a lot more detail.

Silures Eau de Parfum

I know a rich, gourmand fragrance might not be the obvious choice when we’re talking about fragrances for Spring, but hear me out. Silures has a warmth and depth that I find really comforting as the season changes, when you still want something with substance but the heavy, dark winter scents feel like too much. The osmanthus at its heart has that beautiful apricot and leathery quality, the blackberries bring a vivid, fruity brightness, and the Beltane cake accord I created from nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, vanilla, brandy, and butter gives it a celebratory richness that feels right for this optimistic time of year. There’s something fitting about Beltane in spring, too. It was a festival of fire, of renewal, of the world coming back to life.

Vanilla Hair and Body Mist

This one is, quite simply, a hug in a bottle. Warm, enveloping, and quietly comforting, it’s vanilla done properly: not too sweet, not too sickly, but refined and genuinely beautiful. The notes of mallow, tonka, and vanilla create something soft and sophisticated, a take on one of perfumery’s most beloved materials that feels grown-up and considered rather than sugary. Spritz it through your hair after a shower and it wraps around you gently for hours. Layer it underneath one of the EDPs and it adds warmth and depth to the base in the loveliest way.

A note on choosing and wearing fragrances for Spring

Spring is a wonderful time to experiment. The warmer air and extra daylight change the way fragrance behaves on the skin, often making lighter, fresher scents feel more vibrant, and giving richer ones a softer, more approachable quality than they might have in the depths of winter. If you’ve been wearing the same scent all winter and feel ready for something different, this is a good moment to explore new fragrances for Spring.
